Mission Statement

The Mount Vernon Day Care Center was originally founded under the name Bureau of Charities of the City of
Mount Vernon in 1891by a group of women who were interested in providing employment services for mothers
and a day care. Today, the Mount Vernon Day Care Center is the City of Mount Vernon’s oldest non-profit child
care facility, continuing to provide quality care and education to children and parents. Our services have
impacted the lives of families within the city limits and beyond.

Description

The Mount Vernon Day Care Center, Inc. is a historic not-for-profit childcare organization established in 1891. We offer a balanced approach to learning for pre-school and school-aged children. The Center is proud of its significant and celebrated service to youth, families and the greater Mount Vernon community. Our expertly designed programs meet children’s intellectual, social, emotional and physical needs while having fun. The staff understands the developmental requirements of the "total" child, and we encourage the participation and involvement of the parents and family in the Center’s programs. Within this nurturing environment, each child receives the tools they need to become confident and self-aware, as well as opportunities to become inspired, to learn, to imagine, and grow. For more information, contact Executive Director Linda Iglehart at 914.664.6557.
