San Jose Taiko (SJT) exists to create new dimensions in Asian American music through the fusion of traditional Japanese taiko with contemporary Asian American music and performance art. SJT was founded in San Jose's Japantown in 1973 and through dynamic collaborations and critically acclaimed self-produced concerts leaped to the forefront of Santa Clara country's multi-cultural arts community. Through performances, classes, and workshops, SJT captures the imagination of local and regional audiences. With the work of SJT's booking agent, California Arts Management (CAM), the performing troupe is able to tour nationally with packed schedules for two months out of the year. Yet, SJT remains committed to the local community and to its long-standing relationships with Japanese American communities and annually travels to cultural festivals throughout the state.
