Mission Statement
The mission of the Brighter Choice Charter Middle School for Boys and for Girls is to prepare boys and girls for high school and college success while attending to the unique developmental needs of early adolescents. BCMS pursues this mission by:
■offering single-gender instruction in flexible learning spaces;
■differentiating instruction
■utilizing data for decision making;
■committing to technology use;
■emphasizing student choice;
■providing staff advisors & group seminars to support the positive social and emotional growth of adolescents;
■requiring school uniforms;
■having an extended school day and year-round school program; and
■providing individualized high school placement counseling.
Description
NOURISH
With a learning environment designed to nourish the whole girl, students thrive. Most living things require sunlight to grow. Our architects researched the solar path for our new building site and uniquely positioned our new facility to maximize daylight throughout the entire calendar year for our year round program. Positioned orthogonally to the city grid our school building provides maximum daylighting to its primary instructional spaces. Research has confirmed the the benefits daylighting offers for student performance.
INSPIRE
A collaborative environment inspires the learning community at BCMS. Connections across the curriculum are encouraged with interdisciplinary efforts between teachers. BCMS teachers prepare engaging lessons and experiences for our girls in custom designed group offices. The close proximity allows teachers to design and plan opportunities for students that are coordinated across not only subjects but grade levels also.
Advisory is a program feature that includes students in this collaborative spirit. Students are assigned a staff advisor that they meet with in small groups daily. The school building provides many unique settings for these meaningful relationships to develop.
DISCOVER
Students will discover the joy of learning in our custom instructional spaces. The flexibility and variety of our classrooms provide our skilled teaching staff with the inspiration they need in order to deliver students the optimal learning experience. BCMS teachers will have the ability to choose a learning environment that best meets the learning needs of their students, enhances the method of instruction they have chosen, and best facilitates the level and type of engagement their subject matter requires.
