Customer Service Docents are volunteers that help to make each and every guest, member, and family's experience a memorable one. Docents will occupy an exhibit in the museum and maintain it's cleanliness, rules, and interact with the guests and exhibits. This includes providing information on the exhibit itself and also prompting imaginative play and interaction with the exhibit. The Customer Service Docent will also be responsible for answering questions and referring any inquiries to the appropriate staff or managers. Some other tasks include: Occupy an exhibit in the museum Provide guests with: Exhibit instructions Exhibit purpose Upcoming events at museum Answering any questions Interacting/ Playing with kids and adults Enforcing rules Keep items in exhibit Put away after use Maintaining a clean work environment Crafting

Great Explorations hosts a plethora of special events, activities, specialized days, educational programs, and more. With all the offerings the museum has, there is always tasks to prepare prior to the events. This volunteer opportunity will help with those pop-up tasks as needed. There is not a set schedule to when we will have bigger projects but help is always needed. Great Explorations hosts a theme day every last Friday of the month. Theme Days are a whole day filled with activities, crafts, take-home projects, and fun experience dedicated to the monthly themes for daily floor activities. The themes for each month are listed below: January- Space Explorations February- Rainbow Love and Kindness March- Sports Madness April- Weather Science May- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle June- Dino Discovery July- Ocean Science August- Superheroes Sept.- Arts Festival Oct.- Spooky Season Nov.- Goodnight, Morris! Dec- Winter Wonderland Theme days are generally busier days, and include table set-ups with fun activities throughout the whole day. Terrific Tots is a paid interactive 30-minute program designed especially for children ages 1 to 3 years old that incorporates reading, music, and activities that bring adults and children together in a love of literature, the arts, and science. Families and caregivers are encouraged to participate in small group activities that help children develop fine motor skills, provide sensory experiences, and encourage self-expression. Terrific Tots themes change once a week and participation is limited to 12 students and their caregivers each day. We follow the Pinellas Public School schedule for vacations and holidays. The program is currently on Tuesdays and Thursday at 10:30 am. Super Sprouts is a members-only, free interactive 20-minute program designed especially for children ages 1 to 3 years old that incorporates reading, music, and take-home activities that bring adults and children together in a love of literature, the arts, and science. Families and caregivers enjoy read-alouds, music, and demonstrations. Take-home activities that help children develop fine motor skills, provide sensory experiences, and encourage self-expression are included. Super Sprouts themes change once a month and participation is limited to 25 Tots and their caregivers each day. We follow the Pinellas County Public School schedule for vacations and holidays. The program is currently on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:30 am in the Steam Station. Volunteers will help in setting up and facilitating both events. Additional tasks include: Crafting Prepping supplies two weeks ahead Checking inventory Sorting supplies and materials in bins Make a model example Set Up Prep song or activity Lay out cushions, seating, and tables Check sound equipment Sanitize environment Prep environment Set out craft on tables Programming Guarding entrance and check entryticket Participate in activity Facilitate/ help with table craft Project positivity Break Down Put everything away in their spots Put items away in locked cabinet Clean all tables and chairs Wash any reusable supplies Store supplies in back isles Lock cabinets

Junior Caretakers The Junior Caretaker roll is for those who are just beginning their journey in animal care. This position requires a great deal of attention to detail and patience. Our living collection is very important to the museum and must be cared for with great respect. Junior caretakers will look to Senior caretakers for direction and improvement. Responsibilities include: Delivering diets that have been prepared by senior caretakers. Cleaning outside tank glass and plexiglass viewing screens. Misting reptiles. Deep cleaning under direction of senior caretakers. Washing dirty dishes. Assisting with Weigh Day; collecting weights and lengths for collection. Assisting with Critter Encounters as needed / requested. Senior Caretakers The Senior Caretaker roll is for those who have graduated from Junior caretaker and have a better idea and understanding of care for the living collection. Senior Caretakers will also overlook the duties done by Junior caretakers to ensure they have been done correctly before finishing for the day. Senior caretakers will lead deep cleaning, Weigh Days, and critter encounters. Responsibilities include: Preparing collection diets for delivery. Requires knowledge of appropriate portions, bowls, collection reptiles, and animal diets. Cleaning inside tank glass. Cleaning substrate regularly. Misting reptiles & preparing Reptile Safe water for mister. Deep cleaning enclosures - this is a quarterly occurrence. Washing dishes / making sure dishes are properly cleaned. Facilitating animal weight days - collections weights and lengths on animals monthly. Facilitating Critter Encounters.
