The mission of Youth in Focus is to empower under-served teens, through photography, to experience their world in new ways and make positive changes in their lives.
We put cameras in the hands of low income, at-risk youth and place them in a challenging environment surrounded by high quality talented teachers, nurturing adult volunteer mentors, and create a strong community of support. Through photography our students find their voice, identity, creativity, and gain new confidence in their worth and abilities.

8 weeks, twice a week, 3 hours each session is a lot to commit to, but worth every relationship built with each student. It's pretty specific on what you have to know to help teach, either digital photography (cameras and concepts) or black and white dark room techniques - plus you must be comfortable interacting with teenagers. I really love volunteering here, the students are impressive and the program has clear start to finish goals.
