Mission Statement

Gateway Community Development Corporation seeks to revitalize the three municipalities of Mount Rainier, Brentwood and North Brentwood to create a safe, attractive, vibrant and well-educated community enriched by the presence of artists and arts organizations, where diversity is embraced as an asset. Gateway CDC uses civic engagement, arts resources and leveraged partnerships to advance commercial and residential development and expand programs and services to residents and business owners in our communities.

Description

Founded in 1998, Gateway CDC is a nonprofit membership planning and development organization in Prince George's County, Maryland that is pursuing a program of community revitalization based on the arts. Its primary focus is the creation of the Gateway Arts District along US Route One (Rhode Island Avenue). This broad-based $70 million initiative involves the participation of artists, business owners, representatives from five local schools, four municipalities, key county and state agencies and hundreds of residents. Projects include the construction of affordable artist live/work units, facade improvements, business recruitment, arts education in the local schools, and planning for an African American Cultural Heritage Center.
