Mission Statement

Books Through Bars sends quality reading materials to prisoners and encourages creative dialogue on the criminal justice system, thereby educating those living inside and outside of our prison walls.

Description

Books Through Bars provides free educational materials to prisoners throughout the United States. Each month, we receive more than 1,100 letters from individual prisoners. In addition, we provide books to prison libraries locally and nationally, coordinate a prisoner art project, mentor emerging prison book programs, and create internal educational opportunities and trainings for collective members and volunteers.
