Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
ACS seeks to bring about a democratic alternative for Afghanistan that opposes violence and extremism and promotes the rebirth of civil society. We envision a society based on the rule of law, where participation by ordinary citizens, including women, can have an effect. Working across lines of ethnicity, gender and tribal affiliation, we are dedicated to the notion that political performance should be measured in terms of substantive improvements in people's lives. By forging direct links with scholars, experts and ordinary citizens, we hope to promote cross-cultural understanding so a unified Afghanistan can take its place in the community of nations.
Afghans for Civil Society's approach to reconstruction, both physical and institutional, is based upon community empowerment and encouraging a nascent civil society to play a greater role in determining Afghanistan's destiny. ACS focuses on both technical assistance and democracy building efforts, in the belief that they are interrelated. It takes a multi-faceted, holistic and results-based approach to accomplishing its mission. Consistently working with the local community to identify and respond to their most urgent needs, ACS seeks to address these needs, as well as to consider the longer term, underlying building blocks of peace and democracy by initiating projects that are mutually reinforcing. ACS implements programs in five major areas to achieve this integrated approach to strengthening Afghan civil society: *Reconstruction *Education *Independent Media *Women's Issues *Public Policy / Democracy Building
