Description
FilmAid International, a project of the International Rescue Committee in association with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, uses film and video to inform, entertain and educate refugees and displaced people throughout the world. FilmAid started in 1999 bringing film to refugees in Macedonia and Kosovo. FilmAid currently runs film and video programs in the Kakuma camp in Northern Kenya, and the Kibondo camps in Tanzania. FilmAid's initiatives include the following: * Education: FAI prepares educational screenings on topics central to the refugees' experience. * Entertainment: FAI shows films that feed the soul, spirit and imagination. * Employment and Skills Training: FAI employs refugees to run its programs, including training them in film projection. FAI teaches basic filmmaking skills so that refugees can tell their own stories and educate their own populations.
