Opera Company of Brooklyn

Mission Statement

OCB was founded to explore the delicate interplay between the influences and reflections of the artistic aesthetic within the innovation, challenge and discovery of the broader human experience, as expressed through the medium of opera and the potential of the human voice. OCB extends the artistic contributions of opera to New York City communities, and makes opera accessible to all generations, through a diverse, affordable selection of classic opera productions. By performing in smaller and less formal venues, we hope to break down the barriers surrounding opera as being exclusive, for the wealthy, and confined to Manhattan, and demonstrate that it is a unique art form that can be appreciated and enjoyed by all members of society. We are especially interested in embracing young audiences and inviting them to become inspired by this art form, and feel that, if we can succeed in attracting young people who normally would not attend the opera, we have achieved a substantial part of our mission.
