Canine College Trainers become educated in Our Companion’s Canine College dog training program and related positive reinforcement methods. Volunteers for the Our Companions Animal Helpline respond to thousands of calls from the public a year and give advice on animal-related issues. The Helpline Cat Placement Counselor must be comfortable speaking to clients and coaching through challenging situations, be well-versed in our various programs and able to offer positive solutions. Daily computer access is required. Minimum time commitment is approximately 5 hours per week. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to participate. An orientation and training program is required for this opportunity. The Small Animal Assistance Volunteer must be comfortable speaking to clients and coaching through challenging situations, be well-versed in our various programs and able to offer positive solutions. Daily computer access is required. Minimum time commitment is approximately 3 hours per week. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to participate. An orientation and training program is required for this opportunity. The Administrative Data Entry Support Volunteer ( currently full) must be comfortable learning new database software applications, working independently and with attention to detail. Description
Our Companions Animal Rescue is a CT-based non -profit that promises to always do the right thing for animals, regardless of the challenge, cost or inconvenience. What this means is, we go to extraordinary lengths to help animals in need today, while also working to prevent animals from becoming homeless tomorrow by addressing the root causes of pet homelessness. Through our Helpline call center, the only one of its kind in Connecticut, we respond to over 4,000 calls a year from people seeking support, resources, and guidance for their animal related challenges and emergencies.
We currently operate an Animal Sanctuary on 43 acres in Ashford, CT and our Valerie Friedman Program Cneter in Manchester, CT.
Specific programs that help people and pets today AND address the root causes of pet homelessness are as follows: * Our family-friendly adoption programs * our group and private dog training programs * our affordable spay neuter programs for cats and feral cat colonies * our political advocacy efforts * and our Humane Education programs
