Join the PNA’s trail-blazing efforts to create a dementia-friendly community through our enrichment class, the Gathering Place - both in-person, and/or virtually! Our volunteer Team Members help engage participants with Early Stage Memory Loss (ESML) to help them learn strategies for living with memory loss and combat the negative effects of social isolation in a safe and supportive environment. Classes are currently online on Tuesdays, and in-person on Thursdays, from 1 to 3PM. Volunteers typically work 1-2 classes per month, with occasional meetings with our staff. Ideal candidates have some experience working with seniors or an interest in working with people with ESML, and are at least 21 years old. Volunteer application, background check and confidentiality form required, yearlong commitment requested. Must have device and internet connection for virtual volunteers.

And kids are needed to write back! Both get snail mail and a new friend in the process! We match up kids with seniors (or kids with other kids, if preferred), make introductions and send writing prompts. Volunteers needed to help members one-on-one with their smart phones, tablets, laptops or eReaders. Questions are usually pretty basic: how to attach a photo to an email, how to set up an Instagram account, how to follow the Pope on Twitter, etc. Flexible schedule (you pick a mutually convenient time). Background check required & 6-month commitment requested. Great for high school students looking for an ongoing position. Mentors typically meet "clients" in-person at the Greenwood Senior Center, M-F between 9:30 am and 4:30 pm If you are interested in this opportunity for service hours, this is a great direct-service, intergenerational, opportunity. We’ve found volunteers are most successful when they are able to make a longer-termed commitment (6+ months) in order to accumulate the number of required hours. To give you an idea of how many hours you might get, we generally get 8 to 10 requests for help per month, and currently have a pool of about 15 volunteers.
