Mission Statement

CMP provides vocational training, employment services, educational programs and economic development opportunities to disadvantaged Asian Americans and refugees living in New York City. In collaboration with public and private funding sources, CMP helps individuals of all ages-from children to seniors-increase their opportunities to succeed in their new environment.

Description

Founded in 1972 to deliver job training to Chinese immigrants, CMP has over time extended its reach to new constituencies and expanded its offerings to include vocational training in various professions, career counseling and job placement, high-tech computer training, distance-learning and entrepreneurial training. In its early days, CMP offered English lessons and keypunch instructions in a single room of a Chinatown church. Today it offers more than 15 programs for people with diverse backgrounds and aspirations. Headquartered in the top three floors of a former school building on the corner of Mulberry and Bayard, with a satellite office's on Canal Street and Sunset Park Brooklyn, CMP currently serves more than 1,600 people a year.

This is a very nice organization in the heart of Chinatown. The atmosphere is mellow and respectful. The visiting fellow that I had the opportunity to work on this project with was wonderful; open, smart, kind, and highly appreciative of my time and input.
