Mission Statement

Gateway National Recreation Area was created to preserve and protect for the use and enjoyment of present and futrure generations an area possessing outstanding natural and recreational features. The Jamaica Bay Insitute was established to facilitate the use of parks as natural laboratories and outdoor classrooms.

Description

Gateway NRA is a 26,000 acre recreation area located in the heart of the New York metropolitan area. The park extends through three New York City boroughs and into northern New Jersey. Park sites offer a variety of recreation opportunities, along with a chance to explore many significant cultural and natural resources. The Jamaica Bay Institute is located with in the Jamaica Bay Unit of Gateway NRA at Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, NY
