Mission Statement

To care for the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless in our community through services that alleviate suffering, promote dignity, and instill self-sufficiency...as an expression of the ongoing ministry of Jesus Christ.

Description

For over 40 years, Metropolitan Ministries has served poor and homeless men, women, and children in the Tampa Bay region. The Ministries has gone from a single room food pantry, to one of America's most effective and innovative caregivers. Serving 100-150 families daily through Outreach and Prevention Services, the Ministries remains committed to breaking the cycle of poverty...today, tomorrow and always. The facilities include Uplift U residential housing, a residence day care, an elementary school, adult training opportunities, a full-service kitchen that prepares 2,200 meals per day 7 days a week, and a thrift store to provide clothing for those in need and to the general public. Metropolitan Ministries also manages Compassion + Action, a collaborative that mobilizes partnerships across four counties to meet the growing need in local neighborhoods and transform the lives of families in crisis.

One of my fave places to volunteer, and one of my go-to choices when I have a free day and want to use it to volunteer since it's so easy to show up and find a place to fit in for a few hours. The online system makes it even easier, and I've managed to recruit a few friends to go as well -- harder than it might sound.

Metropolitan Ministries (MM) offers a variety of services for individuals who are poor and/or are homeless. It was a pleasure assisting MM in their mission to provide assistance to individuals and families, within my community, who are most in need. If you volunteer, you will experience the impact the organization has on a great variety of people. I would recommend everyone volunteer at least once, in order to see what a difference you could make in someone’s life. Good luck!

I have volunteered many times at the Metropolitan Ministries and each time has been a postive experience with the staff. It is very organized and has a friendly atmosphere.

I have volunteered for many years and this is one of the best organizations I have given my time to. I am new to the Tampa area and have never experienced a non-profit such as Metropolitan Ministries. The amount of services that they offer to individuals and families in need is incredible. From immediate needs such as food and clothing to resume and job search assistance, they truly are making an impact on our community. I encourage everyone to support them either by volunteering or by making a donation.

The time you donate to this organization is the most productive effort you may ever make toward helping those in need. I felt the gratitude in seeing the faces of the clients and in the kind and patient words of the dedicated staff who guided me through the work. The experience will be cherished. Thank you for the opportunity. I will be back.

Great place to volunteer and definitely make an impact to the community. They have lot's of activities to help individuals/families where you can help make a difference. My group enjoyed working in the Kitchen and prepping food; working in Thrift shop, sorting clothing donation, and sorting can goods. The Volunteer Coodinator, Lindsey was great and kept my group busy.

We share its mission to help the poor and homeless in our community. Further, since it is a faith-based organization,aid-recipients also are made aware of their spiritual needs to lead a healthy life. The staff at the organization are dedicated to its mission and are truly outstanding in their service to the community.

Metropolitan Ministries is an excellent organization and they do a myriad of good. The people that work there are nice and extremely helpful to the volunteers as well as the people they serve. They have several different areas that a person can volunteer in, they are quite accommodating, and genuinely appreciative of the volunteers.

I have had a very positive experience volunteering for Metropolitan Ministries. The orientation that I attended was very thorough and described the many volunteer opportunities that were available. The volunteer office has worked with my schedule and has told me what volunteer opportunities were available on each day that I volunteered. I have had a variety of experiences and have really enjoyed working with the staff and other volunteers.

I have been a volunteer for many years but this was my worst experience yet. I was told I would be working at the front desk but upon arrival was told I would be cleaning. I was ok with that until they wanted me to clean public restrooms without proper gloves and cleaning supplies. Although the individual I worked with was very nice the girl in the volunteer office was VERY rude, and did not even ask if I would like to return. By far my worst volunteering experience.
