Mission Statement

Easter Seals Midwest is a not-for-profit organization that is committed to helping individuals with developmental disabilities - including autism - learn, live, work and participate in the community.

In 1964 the prospect of a person with a development disability living a full and meaningful life outside of an institution was doubtful. There were few opportunities for education, job training or community participation. Yet, a small group of determined parents had dreams for their children with developmental disabilities. They dreamed of a life of greater independence, an accepting community and a bright future that would continue long after they were no longer able to take care of them. From this vision Easter Seals Midwest (originally Life Skills) was established.

On September 1, 2013, Life Skills joined Easter Seals and its nationwide network of service providers. As such, our agency is now known as Easter Seals Midwest. By joining this reputable network, we have access to industry experts and best practices that will help us better serve our clients.

The resources available to us through Easter Seals and its affiliates will allow us to enhance our services, generate additional funding to better support our programs, and develop new programs and/or treatment strategies. In addition, it will give us leverage with the federal government to promote public policy that expands services to unserved and underserved individuals. This - combined with our current strengths - gives us the opportunity to both improve and expand our services to individuals with developmental disabilities in the communities we serve.

We will retain our statewide operations and continue to be governed by a local board of directors. Moreover, any fundraising will stay local to the communities in which the funds are raised and where we provide services.

Life Skills and TouchPoint Autism Services merged in 2012. The partnership with Easter Seals is the next step in reaching our strategic goals to help more individuals with developmental disabilities across Missouri.

Throughout our history, Easter Seals Midwest has remained true to our mission of providing the highest quality, individualized services that meet our clients’ needs. Our services are designed with the support of families and input from the people who receive them. Today, Easter Seals Midwest is changing lives by helping people with developmental disabilities- including autism- live in a home of their own, find and keep a job and make friends. Not only are our clients changed by their experiences, but communities are enriched by the values, beliefs and lives of those they touch are transformed.
