Mission Statement

ARC's work with schools and communities is driven by our commitment to a better, more equitable tomorrow. We strive to address the underlying causes of inequality and injustice. We want all students to have access to educational opportunities where they can develop their fullest potential, rooted in respect for differences and an enduring sense of our common humanity. In this tomorrow all children feel valued and affirmed for who they are and acquire the skills and understanding they need to survive, thrive and participate in building a more just and democratic society. Oakland Unity High School (OUHS) is a small, safe, high-expectation and high-support school with a rigorous and culturally-relevant curriculum. It strives to be responsive to the individual developmental and academic needs of historically underserved students and to embrace them with a comprehensive support program through a partnership between the school, families, and community. OUHS will nurture students' academic and leadership potential through rigorous college preparatory coursework, extensive small group sessions, and community-based service learning.
