Calling ALL Volunteers! Volunteer to make a difference in the lives of other. VITAS Healthcare is looking for Volunteers who are able to share their time with hospice patients living at home, in the hospital or a long term facility. Hospice volunteers give their time to terminally ill paieints and their caregivers during a critical time. If you choose to help, VITAS trains you in our one on one orientation class to listen and have the right words to say to patients and their loved ones at the end of life. Visits made by our volunteers, not only help each patient, but the families are truly touched, as well. The shortest conversation can have the largest impact. VITAS volunteers provide respite for caregivers, offer companionship for the patient, and help in so many meaningful ways. You make your own schedule. This is a great opportunity for you to give back to the community, by taking a small amount of your valuable time to make the biggest difference in someone else's. VITAS takes pride in its volunteers and we welcome you to become part of our team and family. There are many locations throughout Brevard that you can choose from. We need a volunteer, to help fulfill dreams, for our terminally ill patients. You would be in charge of starting an application , to the Dream Foundation, on behalf of the patient and following through the process until approved. Once approved, you would make all the necessary arrangements along with the Dream Company and the family, so that dream can be fulfilled. This is a very unique position because you would be helping to facilitate that person's last wish. Are you up for the challenge?

VITAS Healthcare is looking for piano players who are able to devote some time to playing for hospice in our In-patient unit. Sometimes what a hospice patient needs most is a way to express feelings without talking. By playing or singing favorite songs or hymns, VITAS Healthcare music volunteers help patients and families reconnect with feelings and memories that can bring about a sense of peace and happiness. VITAS Healthcare provides training on how to work with people at the end of life. The musician provides talent, compassion and time. Assignments are made according to the volunteer’s time and location. This is a great opportunity for you to give back to the community. By taking time out of your busy week you can make the biggest difference in another’s life. VITAS Healthcare takes pride in its volunteers, and we welcome you to become part of our team. VITAS Healthcare Bereavement Volunteers make a real difference in the emotional and spiritual stability of our patients’ families. Trained bereavement volunteers may be assigned families to call, asked to help at community support groups and memorial services, or do bereavement mailings all with the support and guidance of the VITAS Healthcare bereavement team. Volunteers ask questions and listen VITAS Healthcare Volunteer orientation is provided free of charge to help you learn the skills required to be a hospice volunteer. Additional training is provided about the stages of grief, how to communicate and encourage the bereaved, and how to recognize complicated grief. Volunteers work with the support of VITAS’ manager of volunteers, bereavement manager and/or chaplain to provide a caring presence to a grieving individual. Time and dates are ongoing and flexible.

VITAS is looking for kind and caring people to help terminally ill patients and their families in light housekeeping assistance. Volunteers can support patients and families by offering to do light dusting, vacuuming, making the bed, washing dishes, meal preparation, doing a load of laundry or grocery shopping. These simple tasks can become difficult for a patient and family at the end of life. Providing assistance at a crucial time can make a real difference.
