Mission Statement

The Newport Public Education Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization with IRS 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. Our mission is to foster and encourage improved student performance by enhancing educational opportunities for Newport public school children and building broad based community support for quality public education.

Description

Our projects are not funded through tax dollars, nor are they financed through the School Department budget. Begun in 1991, NPEF started with several donations and a grant from Raytheon Corporation to award nine 'Excellence Grants' for projects to enrich the learning environment in the Newport Public Schools. Since then awards have totaled over $125,000 -- ranging from $100 to $2,000 -- based on applications submitted by Newport educators. Additionally, Newport Hospital has donated funding for the Thompson Middle School Human Services Mall, a suite of offices where students and their families can receive support.
