Mission Statement

NY de Volunteer, a Japanese Community organization, aims to be an information and community portal for people interested in volunteering. We create a forum for people to contribute their time, skills and enthusiasm through volunteering, raise awareness of the social and community issues and encourage our community to feel a stronger connection with the larger NY community. NY de Volunteer was formed to mobilize our community for a positive social change by promoting volunteerism and increasing participation of caring people who have time, willingness and expertise but had little access to information and opportunities on their own. By organizing group volunteer activities, soliciting information sharing, and providing diverse opportunities to participate, NY de Volunteer makes it easier for our members to take their first step in giving back to the community.

Description

MAIN ACTIVITIES Volunteering * Volunteer Tanken (Explorers) NYdV members choose where and when they volunteer from a calendar of available activities and opportunities. No special skills required! NYdV partners with major community services and cultural events around NYC to keep volunteer opportunities fresh and relevant. * Traveling Volunteer (This is our future plan. we are working on it!) Get out the city and work with nature, animals and local people! NYdV members looking for something unique in volunteering can participate in these inter-cultural and regional exchanges that benefit the participants as well as the host organizations / communities. Networking for Good * Web Site and Mailing List NYdeVolunteer.org is our online networking portal. Members use it to find information about upcoming programs, lists of social and community services organizations around New York with volunteer needs, and orientation materials for novice volunteers. Bulletin boards and email mailing list are used to exchange information about volunteer opportunities and discuss past events. * Workshop NYdV workshops are designed to educate potential volunteers about specific techniques and general issues related to social services and community development. Frequent guest speakers offer fascinating glimpses into these topics. * Cafe de Volunteer A monthly, informal gathering of NYdV volunteers. Have a cappuccino with organizers and members! Discuss future plans, debate current needs, or just relax and talk with new friends.
