The Arboretum is situated in an area of rolling hills near the southern edge of the Des Moines Lobe glacial field. Its goals include preservation of local and global biodiversity, and so it is an ideal place for education about all kinds of natural history topics: biological communities, ecological functions, seasonal changes, and human attempts to preserve and restore habitat. It's a great place to bring children and "lose" them in the outdoors with a kid-friendly guide and mentor.
