Mission Statement

Penobscot Marine Museum was established in 1936 as a memorial to the maritime past of both present and former residents of the Penobscot Bay and River region. It's purpose is to aquire property and historical collections integral to the maritime activity of Maine and the nation and to support a comprehensive educational program.

Description

Founded in 1936, the Penobscot Marine Museum is Maine's Oldest Maritime Museum. It is dedicated to the preservation, documentation and exhibition of the maritime history of Penobscot Bay and the State of Maine. The campus is comprised of eight National Historic Register sites and the modern Steven Phillips Memorial Library, the Douglas and Margaret Carver Memorial Art Gallery and the Savage Education Center.
