Creating Community, Connecting Resources, Caring For Kids
L.I.G.H.T.S. Community Learning Centers serves over 1600 children. Bush, Highland, Grant and Richmond schools are all within a five-mile radius of the State Capitol. By providing fundamental educational and social opportunities we are transforming our at-risk communities into communities of promise. We accomplish this through after-school enrichment activities of music, arts, sports, theater and science activities coupled with daily "brain building" sessions which are designed to reinforce reading and math skills the children learn during the day. Parents are modeling lifelong learning by attending classes that provide them with the skills to help educate their children. In addition, we provide health education and services to families who would otherwise be unable to access basic medical, dental and mental health care.
