Mission Statement

The mission of the Parent Child Development Corporation is to empower families to improve the quality of their lives through educational and self-help programs, family-support services, and advocacy activities in partnership with the community.

Description

The Parent-Child Development Corporation (PCDC) is a charitable, community-based agency serving young children and their families. Its regional outreach offers multi-service programming in the rural Virginia counties of Charles City, New Kent, King and Queen, Mathews, Middlesex, Gloucester, and King William, including the Town of West Point.

As a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, PCDC's primary focus is educational, self-help, family support, and advocacy activities on behalf of disadvantaged families in its service area. Its objective is the empowerment of families to improve the quality of their lives and strengthen the communities in which they live.

To that end, PCDC offers:

  • Comprehensive preschool services for economically disadvantaged and at-risk children through the Bridges Head Start program.
  • A fee-based childcare and preschool program, Smart Start, which serves children from six weeks to five years old at its Tri-Rivers Center in West Point.
  • A before- and after-school care program, All Stars, which serves children through the fifth grade at the Tri-Rivers Center in West Point.
  • Growing Together, which encourages family literacy, safety, and stability with parenting classes and support groups, information and referral services, and counseling.

PCDC is funded by public and private grants, service fees, cash and in-kind contributions, and fundraising projects.
