Description

Densho captures fleeting memories and images from the past, makes them accessible, and safeguards them for future generations. Using digital technology, Densho (meaning "to pass on to the next generation") gathers the life stories of Japanese Americans incarcerated by the U.S. government during World War II and presents their firsthand accounts, together with historic photographs and documents. The archival materials are preserved for their historic value and shared to promote awareness of civil liberties, the dangers of intolerance, and the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship. Densho presents these moving life stories to increase knowledge of our country's diverse history, stimulate critical thinking, and help ensure that the democratic principle of equality under the law is upheld now and in the future. Densho is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to historical preservation, education, collaboration, and social equity.
