An arms and armor museum presenting the history and development of arms and armor in western civilization from the Antiquity through the Early Modern Period.

Description

Castlerock museum presents displays of arms and armor various periods accented with reproductions of period art that highlights how the arms and armor were used. Each exhibit area focuses on a time period showing arms and armor used at a narrower span of history. Interpretative panels in each exhibit area explain the history and development of the time period and describe the various pieces of arms and armor on display.

The various exhibits illustrate such time periods such as the Roman Republic, Crusaders, Renaissance Knights, and many others. Castlerock Museum also has topical displays on subjects such as, hunting, jousting, and the introduction of gunpowder in warfare.

For the student of arms and armor and history of warfare, the museum presents the most complete arms and armor display in the Midwest. The chronology and typology is exceptionally complete including many early pieces rarely displayed in American museums.
