Mission Statement

Community Living's mission statement reads, "To provide full inclusion into the Frederick County (Maryland) community through residential housing and programs for our citizens with developmental disabilities," and for its 23 years, that has been the sole thrust of this agency's commitment. The theory behind Community Living's mission is that a disability is a natural part of the human experience, and that having a disability does not diminish the right of individuals with developmental disabilities to enjoy the opportunity to live independently, enjoy self-determination, make choices, contribute to society, and experience full integration and inclusion in the economic, political, social, cultural, and educational mainstream of our society. It is also a goal of this agency's mission to educate and influence others in the community to recognize that persons with developmental disabilities are capable and have these rights and privileges. We try to respond with information and support when evidence of mis-education or discrimination is presented.
