Mission Statement

The mission of The 367 Project is to honor the legacy of Thomas J. Richards by promoting effective and ethical leadership through community service. By establishing, supporting, and empowering a network of collegiate chapter organizations to undertake service projects in their local communities, we will create effective and ethical leaders who can positively impact their communities by leading with integrity, respect, and humility.

Description

The 367 Project was founded in memory of Thomas J. Richards, a Penn State student who passed away in 2010. An Eagle Scout from the Lansdale, PA area, Tom was dedicated to serving others in a cheerful manner, committed to the idea that a person should always strive to do his or her best, and devoted to the concept that effective and ethical leadership can transform the world. At the beginning of his sophomore year at Penn State, while teaching leadership to incoming freshman, Tom suffered a seizure and tragically passed away.

With his attitude, his example, and his leadership, Tom impacted hundreds of people in the Penn State community. And he was able to do that in only 367 days.

The 367 Project aims to carry on Tom’s legacy of making a positive impact in communities through leadership and service. Our goal is to positively transform the world through effective and ethical leadership by instilling our values of leading with integrity, respect, and humility in every walk of life.

  • We Establish collegiate chapter organizations to provide members with an opportunity to learn and practice leadership skills while serving their local communities;
  • We Support those chapters as they carry out their service projects by organizing a network of advisors and mentors on leadership topics and by providing the chapters with access to necessary resources; and
  • We Empower those chapters by providing them with leadership training, hosting conferences and seminars, and by instilling in their members the values of leading with integrity, respect, and humility.
