About the ALS Hope Foundation

The ALS Hope Foundation is an independent foundation headquartered in Philadelphia devoted to making a difference for people living with ALS. Our mission is to (1) support ALS patients and their families by providing excellent and compassionate care across multiple healthcare disciplines, (2) support basic and clinical research aimed at accelerating the cure, treatment and reversal of ALS, and (3) support education and other collaborative programs that foster progress towards offering a better quality of life for our patients, and an eventual cure.

ALS Hope Foundation & Center of Hope 2014 Milestones:

15 Years - The ALS Hope Foundation was established in Philadelphia in 1999 by Dr. Terry Heiman-Patterson and Dr. Jeffrey Deitch and is dedicated to providing support to programs for basic and clinical research leading to a cure for ALS, to clinical centers of excellence dedicated to the care and treatment of people with ALS, and for education about ALS research and the research process. The ALS Hope Foundation is respected as a leader in ALS on both the national and international fronts. We remain committed to serving the ALS community until a cure is found.

30 Years - In 1984, a new clinical center opened at Hahnemann University Hospital devoted to the care of individuals with ALS and Dr. Terry Heiman-Patterson was one of the founding neurologists at the clinic. Today the MDA/ALS Center of Hope at Drexel University College of Medicine is well recognized as a pioneer in the multidisciplinary approach to medical care, which has now become the standard for ALS care.

We know that your donations directly support our work and are deeply grateful for the opportunities to provide care, education and research this gives us!

"The ALS Hope Foundation has been a terrific source of strength during the hardest time of our family's life. From the time we walked through the door on our first visit, we could feel the dedication and sincere concern of the staff members who walked us through the steps of diagnosis, treatment, and daily struggles of living with this devistating disease. Supporting the ALS Hope Foundation has become one of my most important goals. I cannot cure ALS, but I can support those who are making life more bearable for my soul mate."

--Mrs. Marian Rossi

"I have chosen to attend the ALS Hope Foundation clinic in Philadelphia, PA for my treatment. Although there is no cure for ALS, there is hope. I decided to attend the ALS Hope Foundation for treatment because of their sincerity. Before selecting the ALS Hope Foundation as my clinic, I visited many other clinics in the area. I was touched by the kindess shown by Dr. Terry Heiman-Patterson and her staff. They were interested in treating not only the disease, but also taking care of me as a person."

--Mrs. Marlene Fraehmke
