Mission Statement

The purpose of the Gotham Comedy Foundation, Inc. (GCF) is to use the art of humor and laughter to address social and health problems that have a negative impact on the community and the economy of the City of New York.

Description

GCF will accomplish its objectives through:

1. The creation of programs and workshops for, and the dedication of resources to, the public schools of the City of New York, to help their students, particularly those from underserved neighborhoods with high dropout rates and incidents of violence, develop social and emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and personal responsibility through the creative use of comedy.

2. The development of humor therapy programs for patients in New York City hospitals, hospices, senior citizen centers and nursing homes and for the homebound elderly and indigent, which programs shall be designed to promote the comfort, recovery and well-being of such persons and the ability of such persons to be socially and economically productive residents of the City of New York.

3. The development of job-training and career assistance programs for young persons interested in stand up comedy, stage production, entertainment business management, design, creative comedy writing, and the like, including the creation of "Humor Therapy Teams" that will contribute to objectives 1 and 2 above.
