Mission Statement
The Healthy Children organizing Project (HCOP's) mission is to protect young children from preventable diseases caused by environmental hazards in San Francisco's low income and minority communities.
Description
HCOP was established in 1991, as a project of Consumer Action, with the goal of protecting the health of young children (0-5 years old). HCOP focuses on diseases caused by environmental hazards, in particular lead poisoning and asthma. These diseases are most severe in low income and minority communities where environmental hazards are more prevalent and where access to health care and resources is limited. Our primary goals are to: Strengthen community capacity to protect children's health from environmental hazards; and to Reduce the prevalence of environmental hazards in places where young children live, learn and play.
