Mission Statement
Founded in October 2002, ITWomen is a grassroots, volunteer-based organization, founded by senior women in the fields of Technology & Engineering, who act as a catalyst between the private and public sectors to address gender inequity, to heighten awareness, to influence workforce and educational initiatives, and to support aspiring and profession women in the fields of Technology & Engineering.
Description
One of the flagship programs is the ITWomen’s Role Model Speakers Program(RMS) created to help minimize the gender gap in the fields of Technology and Engineering. RMS focuses on female students from the ages of 8-18, to encourage them to discover the many opportunities there are in the fields of Technology & Engineering. It is also critical to demonstrate the importance of pursuing, what is referred to today as, non-traditional occupations. In addition to the RMS program, the ITWomenScholarship Program has awarded college scholarships to 48 deserving young women who are pursuing degrees in the fields of Technology & Engineering.
The overall intention is to support women who are currently in Technology & Engineering, encourage young women to become involved in Technology & Engineering, and to offer the opportunity to obtain college degrees within the fields of Technology & Engineering and hopefully return to the South Florida workforce.
