Mission Statement

Community Education Group, Inc. (CEG) was founded in 1993 as a not-for-profit agency, CEG originally incorporated as the National Women and HIV/AIDS Project (NWAP) in Washington, DC. When originally founded, NWAP sought to organize individual women and organizations at the grassroots level, build a national movement, to empower women, advocate and build coalitions on the issues associated with HIV and women. In 1996 we expanded our scope of work and mission given the "Lessons Learned" through the challenges and successes associated with the development of NWAP and community need. Today, Community Education Group works with a myriad of large and small for profit and non-profit organizations to develop sustainable projects and to increase access for communities of color and women. CEG strives to decrease or eliminate disparities for communities of color and women in the following areas: • Health • Environment • Education • Social • Political

Description

H IV/AIDS has taught us a great deal. Through this pandemic, HIV disease was linked not only to behavior, but to other socioeconomic, health, and educational issues. Thus, we found the primary need to be for the development of tools, information dissemination, community organizing, and educational methods to get this information to the community. An organized, educated and informed community can actively participate in the processes which impact their lives. CEG believes there is a need for more targeted information on HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, oral health, obesity, tuberculosis, women's health, access, the environment, economic development and training. We determined one of the most effective methods for reaching the community with the needed source information was two pronged; media -- information sources and community organizing. CEG currently teaches and trains organizations in skills for survival in this current funding climate (Capacity Building, Board Development, Grant Research, and Writing) and developing social marketing campaigns (Organizing Focus Groups, Reaching Niche Markets through Outreach). CEG offers the following: Organizational Development Focus Group Facilitation Health Promotion Social Marketing and Media Strategic Planning Community Relations Diversity Training Needs Assessments Community Outreach
