Mission Statement

Intiman Theatre produces engaging dramatic work that celebrates the intimate relationship among artist, audience and language and, through the exploration of enduring themes, illuminates the shared human experience of our diverse community.

Description

INTIMAN Theatre, now in its 36th season, is one of the premiere performing arts companies in the Puget Sound region. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Bartlett Sher and Interim Managing Director Kevin Maifeld, INTIMAN produces the work of innovative writers, directors, designers and performers who are masters of their craft. The Theatre's home is the INTIMAN Playhouse, located in Seattle Center, the cultural heart of Seattle. Throughout its history, INTIMAN has mounted beloved classics from the world canon, introduced audiences to little-known masterpieces and presented bold new works from some of the most extraordinary writers in the contemporary theatre. INTIMAN strives to produce extraordinary theatre -- theatre that thrills and delights, that is filled with diverse voices, that asks difficult questions and tells the most remarkable stories. In addition to its work on stage, INTIMAN fosters civic dialogue through numerous educational programs and community collaborations, including the award-winning Living History program. INTIMAN also supports cross-cultural exchange and internationalism through groundbreaking collaborations with artists and companies from around the world. In 2006 INTIMAN was honored with the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre, the most prestigious award given in the nonprofit theatre field.
