Advocacy - The American Lung Association in Iowa is committed to public policy that improves air quality and promotes lung health. Get involved at www.LungAction.org.

Asthma Educator Institute - Asthma Educator Institute is a two-day workshop for healthcare providers who want to improve their ability to provide asthma education to patients and their families. Many attendees go on to take the Asthma Certification Exam to become a Certified Asthma Educator (AE-C).

Better Breathers Club - Better Breathers Clubs and COPD Support Groups promote education on respiratory health to patients across the state. This program teaches patients and families how to live a more complete life with their disease while giving individuals an opportunity to share ideas and solutions to problems.

Central Iowa Tobacco-free Partnership - The mission of CITP is to reduce death and disease caused by tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke in Central Iowa. CITP covers Polk, Dallas, Warren and Madison Counties. For more information, visit www.TobaccoFreePartnership.com.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease - The American Lung Association has formed a new coalition of professionals in healthcare and public health to address the needs of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease patients and providers in Iowa. (COPD) Coalition

Environmental Improvements for Children’s Asthma Grant - Through this grant, children with asthma will have environmental triggers reduced within their home. Residents in Polk and Linn County may qualify for an in-home visitor to review asthma symptoms and environmental triggers with the family. Modifications within the home (ex: furnace filters, mattress coverings, cleaning products) will be free of charge to help reduce the burden of asthma.

Freedom From Smoking - (FFS) is a state-of-the-art cessation program developed to help tobacco users at all stages in the quitting process. The American Lung Association offers classes to train professionals to facilitate FFS in their community or at their worksite. Tobacco users can enroll in the online version at www.ffsonline.org.

Iowa Asthma Coalition - The Iowa Asthma Coalition (IAC) is a partnership of organizations and individuals who care about the quality of life for people in Iowa with asthma. Our mission is to help Iowans understand the signs of an asthma attack, provide people with Asthma Action Plans and lower the number of asthma triggers.

Lung HelpLine - When you are looking for answers to your lung health questions, the American Lung Association Lung HelpLine will provide you with immediate, clear and accurate information at no cost. By calling 1-800-LUNG-USA you will be connected directly to a registered nurse or respiratory therapist.

Lung Transplant Support Group - In collaboration with the University of Iowa, the Lung Transplant Support Group meets at the American Lung Association every six months. The group is for patients who have recently had a lung transplant or patients who are on the waiting list to have a lung transplant. Individuals share stories, ideas and inspiration about their life-changing experience.

Lung Expo - The Lung Expo is open to all individuals affected by lung disease and cancer. This day-long event is full of networking, education and exhibits.

Fight For Air CLIMB - The Fight For Air Climb is a unique event for the American Lung Association. Individuals and teams climb the steps of three buildings in downtown Des Moines in March. There are many opportunities for you to get involved in this event. You can form a team, volunteer the day of, or participate on the planning committee. www.FightForAirClimb.org

Fight For Air WALK - The Fight For Air Walk is held in the fall at Principal Park in Des Moines. To show support for loved ones who have battled lung disease, you can form a team, volunteer the day of, or participate on the planning committee. www.FightForAirWalk.org
