Mission Statement

The mission of the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation is to be a premier maritime-based educational organization, which demonstrates the values of trust, teamwork and self-discipline by offering the public opportunities to participate in programs centered on the building, sailing, and preservation of Delaware's Tall Ship Ambassador, the Kalmar Nyckel .

Description

The Kalmar Nyckel is a recreation of a 17th century square-rigged ship which is maintained and sailed mainly by a volunteer crew. We have over 300 active volunteers who support the ship and Foundation, complimenting the four ship's staff, and four office staff. The crew comes from all walks of life, bringing various skills and experiences to the organization.
