Mission Statement

The Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati is a horticultural resource dedicated to enriching the lives of all people through education, community beautification and environmental stewardship.

Description

The Outreach Team of the Civic Garden Center is composed of the Neighborhood Gardens Program and the Youth Education Program. The Neighborhood Gardens Program is one the of the Civic Garden Center's longest-standing community outreach efforts starting with a pilot garden in 1980. We assist community groups, primarily in low-to-moderate income neighborhoods, in converting blighted vacant lots into beautiful and produtive community food and beautification gardens. Neighborhood Gardens provides groups with technical assistance, leadership training, horticulture education and start-up materials to help them successfully organize, plan, build and sustain their gardens. The Youth Education Program serves over 7,000 children annually with both school and community based programs throughout metro Cincinnati. We focus our energies on children in urban areas who may have little access to greenspace, helping them gain exposure to the "backyard experience".
