Mission Statement

Georgia Shares is a federation of non-profit organizations with a common mission of social justice for all Georgians.

Description

The purpose of Georgia Shares is very simple: to raise funds from workplace contributions for organizations committed to social and economic justice. The fulfillment of Georgia Shares’ purpose is very complex, requiring intense collaboration among organizations that might not, at first glance, appear to have a great deal in common. The history of the organization reveals a surprising story of grass roots organization, and current activities continue to expand on the founding principle of bringing working people together with the organizations that are making the change they value.

Fourteen pioneering nonprofits founded Georgia Shares in 1992 because they recognized a shared commitment to social change and a need for new income sources to support their work. After three years of organizing, Georgia Shares participated in three campaigns in the fall of 1995. In 2010, Georgia Shares participated in over 15 campaigns.
