Mission Statement

CITYstage is a non-profit organization designed to inspire inner city youth to become artists and leaders in the performing arts community through a program that cultivates individuality, fitness and artistic expression.

Description

Low-income students-grades 6 through 12- will be invited to participate in a wide range of performing arts programs free of charge. Classes in performance such as jazz, hip-hop, theatre improvisation and choreography will be taught by professional artists as well as advanced CITYstage students. The year will culminate with a stage event produced and performed by the students.

In an effort to cultivate peer leadership, students who complete the student teaching course will be offered paid internships to teach beginning level classes at the studio. Moreover, interns seeking additional leadership opportunities may help lead performance workshops for local schools. These partnerships will broaden the impact of CITYstage by enabling hundreds of additional students to experience the benefits of dance and theatre.

CITYstage represents a unique new pathway for inner city youth in Los Angeles by developing their talents as artists, performers and teachers. The program will enable youth to develop confidence, creativity, self-expression, and strong personal relationships with peers and adults.
