Mission Statement

The National Vitiligo Foundation is devoted to increasing public awareness of the disease, advocating for patients with the disease, and supporting basic science and clinical research on the disease.

Affecting 1-2% of the population worldwide, about 6 million people in the U.S. live with vitiligo. Though its more noticeable on darker skin tones, vitiligo does not discriminate based on race, gender, socioeconomics or any other basis. People are usually not born with vitiligo. Though the average age for onset is in the mid 20's, onset can occur at any age.

  • To increase public awareness and concern for the vitiligo patient
  • To broaden the concern for the patient within the medical community
