This is a rewarding opportunity to help older adults learn basic computer skills, stay connected with loved ones through technology, and explore the digital world in a supportive environment. Responsibilities: Provide one-on-one or small group assistance to seniors in using computers, tablets, and smartphones. Teach basic computer skills such as navigating the internet and using email. Assist residents in troubleshooting basic technical issues and familiarizing them with software applications. Foster a welcoming and patient atmosphere conducive to learning and exploration. Requirements: Comfortable using computers and familiar with common software applications. Role Title: Senior Event Guide Event Date: Tuesday, September 10th, 2024 Time: 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM Location: Downtown Houston Area Role Overview: We are seeking a friendly and enthusiastic volunteer to serve as a Senior Event Guide for an upcoming social event that our senior residents (approximately 10 seniors) are scheduled to attend. This position is perfect for someone who enjoys interacting with people and helping ensure that our senior residents have a pleasant and enjoyable experience. Responsibilities: Arrival and Check-In: Assist seniors with checking in to get on the bus to go to the event. Attending the Event: Travelling to the location with provided transport to attend the event. Seating Assistance: Help seniors find and settle into their designated seating area. Food Station Guidance: Direct seniors to the food stations and provide any necessary guidance to help them navigate the event space. General Support: Be available to answer questions, provide information, and offer a welcoming presence throughout the event. Departure: Ensure seniors are checked in to the bus and guided safely back to their residential building at the end of the event. Requirements: Friendly and Approachable: Must have a positive attitude and be comfortable interacting with seniors. Reliable: Ability to commit to the entire event duration from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Organizational Skills: Capable of assisting with event logistics and providing clear guidance. No Personal Assistance Needed: Seniors attending the event are independent and do not require personal assistance, so this role focuses on guidance and support rather than personal care. Ability to communicate with residence administrators througout the day will be required. You will need to have a working cellphone. Leo Daniels Towers, an independent living housing project: To provide elderly persons and handicapped persons with housing facilities and services specially designed to meet their physical, social and psychological needs, and to promote their health, security, happiness, and usefulness in longer living.
Description
On July 9, 1979, an eight story 2.8 million dollar project for the elderly and nonelderly disabled was completed; The W. Leo Daniels Towers is located at 8826 Harrell, Houston, Texas. In August, 1979, the Towers opened its doors to one hundred plus residents, many of whom still reside at the project. During the thirty years, occupancy has never dropped below ninety-seven percent. The Towers presently has a beauty shop, a washateria and a cafeteria with a central dining room that accommodates 299 persons.
In 1998 a remedial education class was supported by Houston Community College. In 2002, a Computer Technology Center was acquired and has existed since 1980. The program is designed to assist thirty (30) residents to maintain an independent lifestyle by offering on site services such as Nutrition, Housekeeping and Personal Assistance.
