I'm privileged to be on the Board of Directors for St. Simon's. I'm reminded why I'm involved when I spend time in the classroom with these wonderful kids and their dedicated teachers, all of whom are appreciative of the volunteers' time and eager to participate in any special project. At the end of the day, when the working parents come to pick up their kids, they know their children have been well cared for. This program is a blessing for everyone involved.

Having served on the Board of Directors for more than 5 years, I believe in this organization. Other folks are doing similar work but we do it more personally and at a lower cost. Professional teachers are our stars who providing oversight daily for the children. When you fall in love with 2 darling young girls and learn they are being raised by their grandmother who works in the butcher shop at a supermarket you just want to help! Come join us and fall in love.

This little program has a big impact! I started volunteering in spring '11. There are 14 elementary schools that benefit. The schools serve largely low-income neighborhoods. Generally, they have limited supplies, but are neat and well maintained. A few people have asked me about the neighborhoods & I feel fine in them. Plus, being after school, it’s easy and convenient to park in the staff lot. Most importantly, the kids are ADORABLE! They are so eager to learn and the teachers in charge of each after-school program are very supportive of the volunteers and their ideas. Some ideas are one-on-one tutoring, book clubs, small group learning activities, classroom parties & games. Consider yourself creative? They’d love to meet you! Set up a writing, math, or spelling bee club! It's been a fun and meaningful use of my time and energy.
