The American Catholic is an independent, lay-administered Catholic periodical that participates in the gospel mission of the church. The American Catholic offers a progressive, open, and honest perspective on the life of the people of God. The American Catholic strives to be faithful to the teachings of Jesus, the nourishing, trnasforming spirit of Vatican II, and the principles of democracy. The American Catholic searches for connections between matters of faith and life, and provides a forum for grassroots expression.

Description

It is a periodical that publishes 9 issues (20-24 pages) per year with a broad geographic distribution. Most of the work is done by volunteers. Support is mostly from subscriptions and donations.
