Mission Statement

The Food of God 4 the People of God responds to the affects of hunger, and the catastrophic affects poverty has created by constant budget cuts and a 'throw away' mentality on human beings in our cities.

In a dire struggle to survive, we provide a hot, vegetarian meal in public places, following the example of Jesus, who constantly fed people on hillsides in Israel and Palestine and to show the face of poverty in our midst. We combine a spiritual practice for our workers, and bring that spirit of love out of the church and into the park.

We are ecumenical and welcome all faith practices. We do not preach the gospel or charge fees for our food in the park.

Description

We collect, prepare, cook and bring a hot, nutritious lunch to a park in West Oakland, each Thursday.

We start in the church kitchen by preparing and cooking rice, beans, and roasted vegetables.

We then travel out to a park in West Oakland and serve a hot lunch. We feed for free and never ask anything of our recepients.

We then travel back to the church to clean up.
