Viva Bien, Coma Bien, Siéntase Bien health goal is to enhance the healthy living of children and adults through physical education and nutrition courses. 52 (900 hour) AmeriCorps members serve at 26 school sites to provide health resources and activities. They are trained to focus on improving the health of those in their school community. The Community Health Advocates offer physical activities and 8 week nutrition education series for parents. They focus on working with the parents who are high need based on the Adult Health Fitness Zone Survey. Youth Health Fitness Advocates provide physical education, cooking and gardening enrichment classes for students. They focus on the working closely with the high need students who do not pass the physical fitness pre test that is conducted by the members at the beginning of the year. Both members collaborate weekly to plan family health and fitness events as a way to bring families together to promote heath and wellness in the Hayward community.
