Description

NAMI Polk County, Inc. was founded in 1985 and has over 100 paid members and over 400 non-member clients who access services annually. The majority of members are families whose loved ones suffer from severe and persistent mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, major depression or obsessive compulsive disorder. NAMI Polk is one of the leading NAMI affiliates in the state of Florida and works in tandem with NAMI National and NAMI Florida offices.

NAMI Polk's purpose is accomplished via NAMI programs such as information and referral services, family and peer education programs, educational seminars for parents and teachers, support groups for families and individuals, and by educating legislators, public officials and citizens about the needs of mentally ill citizens. The NAMI National office provides affiliates with high quality signature programs, many of which are noted as best practices.
