Mission Statement
At Cumberland Gap, the first great gateway to the west, follow the buffalo, the Native American, the longhunter, the pioneer... all traveled this route through the mountains into the wilderness of Kentucky. Modern day explorers and travelers stand in awe at this great gateway and the many miles of trails and scenic features found in the park.
Description
Cumberland Gap National Historical Park consists of approximately 24,000 acres, 80 miles of trails, camping areas and spectacular mountain scenery. Numerous interpretive programs bring the history and natural world to life. The park visitor center houses a museum with interactive exhibits, auditorium with two high definition films, book sales outlet, and Cumberland Crafts, which showcases handmade crafts from the region.
Administered by the National Park Service, Cumberland Gap is a very diverse park with a wide array of resources and range of volunteer opportunities.
