The mission of the Virginia Beach Department of Emergency Medical Services is to provide a quality environment and a secure and superior quality of life for the City of Virginia Beach through the provision of public education, emergency medical services and rescue services, to those who live, visit, work or invest in the City. We will accomplish our mission through prevention, education, medical services, and other related emergency and non-emergency activities. We will actively participate in our community, serve as role models, and strive to effectively and efficiently utilize all of the necessary resources at our command to provide a product deemed excellent by our citizens.
The Virginia Beach Department of Emergency Medical Services operates the nationâ  s largest volunteer rescue squad program. Volunteers serve as EMTs and paramedics to provide emergency medical services for the cityâ  s 427,000 citizens and 2.5 million annual visitors.
