Mission Statement
NSP's mission is to empower and support people living in poverty in our communities, while building a movement to address the fundamental causes of poverty in our country. We envision a day when all people will have the opportunity to achieve economic security and to pursue their aspirations.
Description
NSP operates a national network of resource centers, staffed by student advocates from area colleges and universities, that provide immediate research and problem-solving services to community residents in need of assistance finding sustainable employment, social services, and/or educational opportunities. We recruit and train a diverse corps of college students who make a rigorous and sustained commitment to direct service in their communities while in school. We equip our students to become advocates who work one-on-one with low-income community members to access basic services to meet immediate needs and crises, while also providing comprehensive support services designed to place clients and their families on a path out of poverty.
