Mission Statement

The Armstrong Community Music School (ACMS) was created to provide the highest quality music education to all residents of central Texas, regardless of their age, skill level, or ability to pay. We provide the necessary structure to develop each individual's potential to actively create their own music and to better appreciate the musical performance of others.

Description

Armstrong Community Music School of Austin Lyric Opera was established in April 2000 and offers a wealth of diverse instruction to students of all ages and skill levels. The School, the first ever to be inaugurated by an opera company, and one of the first community music schools in Texas, offers instruction in classical, jazz, as well as blues, folk and a variety of musical styles from world cultures. In addition, the School provides opera specific outreach for ages kindergarten through adult and musical programs for high-risk youth in housing projects, detention facilities and community centers. The Armstrong Community Music School is a member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.
